- Do not use all caps
- Do not use flashing (blinking) text
- Do not use cliched
or outdated imagery (ex: sunflares, pictures with 1s and
0s, etc)
- Do not center justify all text, and images on
your page.
- Do not use animated gifs. If you must,
use them very sparingly.
- Do not use pop-ups on your site.
Especially not on the homepage. You may need to use for
site functionality (using a pop-up for showing a larger version
of an image)
- Do not complicate the page. Keep things
simple. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean
you should.
- Do not use background MIDI music. Your visitors
won't like it.
- Do not design a corporate site yourself.
You could damage your brand. If your site looks unprofessional
and is difficult to use, you will scare your customers
away.
- Do not use frames.
- Do not use too big or small a font
size. Setting the font size = 2 is a good rule of thumb.
- Do
not use hit counters.
- Do not use text or images from
another website, without asking first, unless it's explicitly
stated that it is in the public domain.
