Web Tips - Web Design Dont's

<< Go Back A Page

  1. Do not use all caps

  2. Do not use flashing (blinking) text

  3. Do not use cliched or outdated imagery (ex: sunflares, pictures with 1s and 0s, etc)

  4. Do not center justify all text, and images on your page.

  5. Do not use animated gifs. If you must, use them very sparingly.

  6. Do not use pop-ups on your site. Especially not on the homepage. You may need to use for site functionality (using a pop-up for showing a larger version of an image)

  7. Do not complicate the page. Keep things simple. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

  8. Do not use background MIDI music. Your visitors won't like it.

  9. Do not design a corporate site yourself. You could damage your brand. If your site looks unprofessional and is difficult to use, you will scare your customers away.

  10. Do not use frames.

  11. Do not use too big or small a font size. Setting the font size = 2 is a good rule of thumb.

  12. Do not use hit counters.

  13. Do not use text or images from another website, without asking first, unless it's explicitly stated that it is in the public domain.
