- Do make sure your text contrasts
well with your background. We've seen yellow text on a white
background believe it or not.
- Do change your content
often. Users will not come back if things are always the
same.
- Do keep a reminder set of when your domain
is set to expire. If you don't, you might end up losing it.
- Do
check your links with a link checker. You can frustrate
your visitors by having broken links/navigation on your site.
- Do
check your website in Netscape and Internet Explorer. Internet
Explorer has a lion's share of the user base, but it's
still good practice.
- Do spell check all
the pages on your site.
- Do be sure to back-up
your site on a regular basis.
- Do encourage people
you know and trust to take a test drive of your site. Ask
them to provide feedback and try to proofread the site.
- Do
make a practice of having links to other external
sites open in a new window (ex: set target to _blank).
This way, users won't leave your site unintentionally.
- Do
link your logo back to your homepage. That is a web standard
for getting back to the homepage.
- Do provide a search
if the website has 50 or more pages.
- Always check your spelling. Poor spelling
and grammar can damage your message.
- Do submit your site to the major search
engines.
