If you want to get rid of spam from your main account,
just go by the following instructions.
IMPORTANT: If you already are getting
a lot of spam to your main account, you will unfortunately
need to create a new main account. Once an e-mail address
is on spammer lists, it unfortunately will not go away.
- Create your main personal or work e-mail
address, let's refer to it as main@yourdomain.com for instructional
purposes.
Be sure you create a non-dictionary word as the
first part of your e-mail. Words like "support", "Bob",
"Frank", "Sally", etc are subject to dictionary spam attacks.
This is where spammers will e-mail every word in the dictionary
@yourdomain.com. See examples below:
Safe: bobjohansen@yourdomain.com
Unsafe: bob@yourdomain.com
Safe: abccompanysupport@yourdomain.com
Unsafe: support@yourdomain.com
- Create a Yahoo or MSN e-mail account. Now,
anytime you want to give your e-mail address to a friend
or business associate, just use your main account.
- But, when you want to use your e-mail
to buy a product online, to register for a content, subscribe
to a newsletter, to submit your site to search engines,
you will use your Yahoo account. Essentially, anytime you
need to give your e-mail address to a stranger or someone
you cannot see or do not know, give them your Yahoo address.
Yes, this account WILL get spammed, but Yahoo has great spam filters, and you
only need to check this e-mail address occasionally, since you are not giving
it to friends or coworkers.
- Make sure you never put your e-mail
address in the code of your website or put it on anyone
else's site. In other words, do not invite people to e-mail
you at you@yourdomain.com.
The reason is that spammers have programs that harvest
(collect) e-mail address off website, and put them into
a large database to be used and sold later for spam.
If you do want to list your e-mail address on your site,
be sure to separate the e-mail address in different parts,
to trick the harvesting programs. For an easy way to do
this, just use our Mailto Encryptor, found on our Web
Tools page.
Now, the beauty is that your everyday spam account will
not get any spam, but your yahoo account will see spam occasionally,
which is okay, since you are only checking it for confirmation
e-mails after a subscription, purchase, etc.
